Behold, my closet

As promised, here are some “after” photos of the closet that Husband lovingly built for me. (I mean, he even measured my dresses to make sure the rod was high enough so they wouldn’t drag on the floor. Swoon!)

Remember us? Also, we fixed up our foyer

It’s funny: The last time we posted on our blog was Oct 14 — Exactly one week before we welcomed our son. Then, let’s just say, we were busy working on another project! Now we’re back in business with renovating. We’ve officially lived in the Gowanus house for more than two years, and we’re still working on it. We’ll be working on this till we die probably.

How the floorplan has changed

We’ve preserved the house as a three-family, but we’re using it as a two-family. Here’s the before and after floorplan. Please excuse my lame Photoshop skills. We live on the top two floors, rent the first floor out, and share the backyard.

I forgot to delete out the basement bathroom in the “after” floorplan. It seems counterintuitive to REMOVE a bathroom, especially in NYC, but it’s also the electrical room. Call me crazy, but showering feet from the house’s electrical grid feels a little dangerous.

So it’s been awhile…

We’ve come a long way on the third floor since it was a separate apartment. It’s looking really great, all thanks to husband’s hard work. (Now that I’m officially in my ninth month of pregnancy, I’m not much help when it comes to renovating.)

When we last checked in, Hickory wood floors were just going in, and the drywall was all being replaced. Check out the finished rooms below. The bed is officially back on the third floor instead of the kitchen. We’re decorating pretty slowly, mostly because we’re so focused on getting the construction done before baby decides to arrive. We’ll hang art and get things like nightstands later.

The only room that’s done in the house…

… belongs to the resident who doesn’t even live here yet! Seeing how I’m getting pretty pregnant (31 weeks today, aka nearly eight months), I’ve been stressing over not having the nursery done. (Not to mention the rest of the…

Phase two continues

The third floor now has walls, ceilings, and really nice hickory wood flooring just a few weeks after being totally demolished out.¬† The crew also fixed the plaster molding in the entryway on the parlor floor, which came crashing down…

It’s like a whole different house

It’s hard to believe that just two weeks ago, our house looked like what we not-so-affectionately called, “The McDonald’s Spaceship.” The new siding was finished on Friday, and husband spent the weekend painting the brick gray (it was a lovely…

A window becomes a door

This weekend I converted a window into a door so that we have access to the backyard from our second floor. One of the first things we did when we moved in was¬†remove the shed in our backyard and install…
